You May Already Be a Humanist

Many people follow a humanist philosophy, even though they may not have heard of humanism. If you agree with most of these statements, you are probably a humanist:

  • All human beings, without exception, deserve their basic human rights and freedom.

  • Humans are naturally caring and compassionate toward each other, regardless of their religious beliefs or
    lack of religious beliefs.

  • Humans flourish best in open, free democratic societies that protect the basic rights of all.

  • Social and governmental policy should be based on reasoning and compassion, not religious or ideological dogmas.

  • Religion is a purely personal affair and has no role in government or public education.

  • Everyone should be free to practice any religion, as long as they do not attempt to force it on anyone else or cause anyone harm.
