The Time is Now
The time is
now to join and support the Humanists of Florida Association (HFA).
The threats to our freedom from religious extremists are very real.
And, Florida has become a pivotal state in a clash between
moralities. On the one hand, you have religious extremists, like
Florida’s own Rev Kennedy, promoting a religious war against anyone
who does not share their particular brand of religious piety. On
the other, you have a small but dedicated group of philosophers and
activists, who have committed themselves to protecting the freedoms
on which our nation was founded.
If you are
one of these dedicated individuals, it is time you joined a group of
likeminded individuals working to promote social justice while
providing an important moral counter to religious extremism right
here in Florida.
If you are
like the others who have joined HFA and support our mission, you
believe that individuals have the right to think for themselves.
You believe that morality has everything to do with how you treat
your fellow human beings and nothing to do with which god you
worship if you worship at all. You believe that the wall of
separation between church and state is there to protect minorities
from the tyranny of the majority. You believe that government
should stay out of private medical decisions. You believe that
every child deserves a quality education and that education must
include the teaching of science (including evolution). And, you
believe that it is time that someone stood up to these religious
bullies and spoke out on behalf of values of freedom.
HFA
relies its members to provide the resources that are necessary to
make our stand. With your help, we are able to reach out to the
media to make sure our voices are heard.[1]
With your help we are helping to create a statewide progressive
movement that stands together to fight for justice.[2]
And with your help, we are providing a quality
education to at risk youth in Tampa[3].
But we
have more work ahead of us. Your support is needed now to help us
ensure that creationism doesn’t find its way into Florida’s
classrooms. Your support is needed now to help us create and
distribute our own radio program across the state and across the
nation.[4]
Your support is needed now if we are to expand
our educational programs across our state. The time is now to get
involved by joining HFA and supporting our work. The time is now to
take a stand.
