HFA works to

Goal: Humanists
are dedicated to Democracy as an ethical form of government that
allows for individual freedom while promoting personal
responsibility. Our goal is to create a more compassionate
society through the use of reason and science.
Our work on behalf
of Democracy focuses on 2 main areas.

Democracy over theocracy through defense of the First Amendment

Ethical Government.
Science

state coalition to promote improved science standards in Florida
- Created a
journal on the state of science education in Florida
- Conducted
outreach to media in support of evolution and in opposition to
the intelligent design movement currently active in Florida.
Main Goal: Improve Scientific Literacy
in the general population.
Review of Environment:
Scientific Literacy is an essential skill to have in this modern
age. Science and technology are
integral to every aspect of modern life: from what we eat and where
we live to how we work. Knowledge of science determines how
effectively we as a society adapt to technological changes, how we
will deal with problems such as disease, the environment and even
war. Good citizenship now requires a basic level of scientific
literacy. The price we will pay as a society for not promoting
and encouraging scientific literacy could ultimately be our survival
as a species.
HFA’s strategy to improve scientific literacy focuses on three main
areas:
- Science
Education
- Science Policy
- Scientific
Ethics
Education
- Founded the
Carl Sagan Academy in Tampa
Goal:
HFA wants to popularize science and its peaceful applications and to
encourage individual growth aimed toward achieving a more
progressive, enlightened and sane society.
Background: Humanists are profoundly committed to the belief that
all people can, and do, learn and are dedicated to sustaining and
strengthening public education in pursuit of a more enlightened and
compassionate society.
